The MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology Program
The MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology Programme is a distance-learning programme run by the Sophia Centre at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, UK, the third oldest university in England and Wales after Oxford and Cambridge.
The MA programme examines the ways that human beings relate to the sky (through astrology, astronomy, and cosmology), using approaches from history, sociology, anthropology, and philosophy. Students work from home and course material is delivered via the web, email, and video conferencing.
The MA programme can be taken part-time, over a period of up to four years. You can find details of applications, fees, and course content online here.
Entry into the MA in Cultural Astronomy & Astrology Programme
Normally applicants are required to have a B.A. degree in a relevant subject (such as in history, anthropology, or the study of religions) however, in this instance, students, who either do not have a degree in the relevant discipline, or who do not have a first degree (B.A. or B.Sc.), can be accepted on the basis of prior experience and learning.
In this instance, we may ask applicants to write a 3,000 word academic essay, of which we will discuss and provide advice for at the intensive.
The Scholarship Offer for Delegates of the New England Intensive Only
If you both commit yourself to applying for the MA programme and submit your application within six week of the intensive (by Monday 3rd July, 2011) you will receive a scholarship of 20% of the fees payable in your first year of study.
For an international student paying full-time fees in the year 2010-11, the value of the scholarship would therefore be £2144, or approximately $3300. Please eMail Dr Nicholas Campion, n.campion@tsd.ac.uk, for details of the latest fee structure, including fees for students in the European Union.
